What the Fintech League means to us

Not only are 11:FC honoured to be playing in the League, the League itself was the brainchild of 11:FS and Funding Options, spearheaded by Vice-captain Anthony Marion who worked tirelessly to make the dream a reality.

“The Fintech Football League is a childhood dream. When the opportunity came to bring, arguably, some of the most promising talent in the world together, to compete at the highest level on one of the most iconic football grounds in Europe, I never looked back. If it’s footballing prowess, friendly rivalries, entertainment, suspense and drama you are looking for, then you are in for a treat.” - Anthony Marion 11:FC

Community is a huge part of fintech as a whole and especially what we do at 11:FS with our Fintech Insider podcast, our After Dark events, meet-ups and much more. The opportunity to bring the fintech community together through the medium of football was a chance we couldn’t pass up.

Our Club Chairman, David Brear had this to say:

“Fintech Football is only 1% Finished and I strongly believe in the gaffer Jim Morrison and this group of players to bring the trophy home. There will be no easy games, given the impressive talent on show, but we certainly relish the challenge”.

In it to win it

Community is only one side of the coin, however. Naturally, the 11:FC team are also in it to win it. Having just won Consultancy of the Year at the British Banking Awards, we’re becoming accustomed to winning and seeing off the competition, and we’d love to put the Fintech League trophy in the cabinet alongside the banking award.

After a few pre-season “friendlies”, the competition is really heating up and rivalries are forming.

Club Captain Pet Berisha gave this punchy statement ahead of Friday’s first match against ReceiptBank FC:

“I’m honoured to be leading the team out, at the highest level of football in financial services. This is any kid’s dream, and I can tell you that every player in that dressing room is raring to go. Pressure? I’m not sure - I think there are two types of people in this world. Those who crumble under pressure, and those who thrive. Pressure can either break you, or it can make diamonds. We certainly see ourselves in the latter category”

11:FC all-time top scorer Michael Bailey added:

“Pundits keep talking about my goalscoring record, but I want to focus on football and winning as a team. I don’t play for individual trophies like the Fintech Ballon d’Or, I just want what’s best for the squad, for 11:FC, and that’s bringing the Fintech League home”

Club Manager Jim Morrison backs his team to win the league:

"Obviously we have to get our players at it and playing as well as we possibly can ahead of a tough league opener. The lure of the Friday Night Lights is infectious, hairs starting to stand up on the back of my neck - the magic of the fintech league. I know our group will relish the challenge of stepping up against fintech's finest. Jouez"

And at the end of the day, the real winner will be fintech - but we’d love it to be us as well!
